reflections on christmas

"And the word became flesh and dwelt among us."

One of my favorite Christmas songs is actually not Rudolph or Frosty but is is called, "Welcome to our World," by Michael W. Smith. This is the "birthday" song I choose to sing to Jesus.

"Tears are falling, hearts are breaking, how we need to hear from God. You've been promised, we've been waiting, welcome Holy Child.
Hope that you don't mind our manger, how I wish we would have known. But long awaited Holy Stranger, make yourself at home, please make yourself at home.
Bring your peace into our violence, bid our hungry souls be filled. Word now breaking Heaven's silence, welcome to our world.

Fragile finger sent to heal us, tender brow prepared for thorn. Tiny heart whose blood will save us unto us is born, unto us is born. So wrap our injured flesh around You, breathe our air and walk our sod. Rob our sin and make us holy perfect Son of God, perfect Son of God, welcome to our world."

So, on this day in the midst of Christmas still (12 days actually) I am lingering in the silence of this space still watching the twinkling lights and flickering candle flame wondering the best way to welcome Jesus again into this world. I am thankful for feasting days with family and for the ability and the capacity to give presents and receive (especially my much wanted Kitchen Aid Mixer). I am awestruck by how many tiny pieces our 1,000 piece puzzle really has and loving the laughter in our little house that indeed is full to the brim. I am in wonder that we actually had six humans and six dogs who, played and ate and slept in rhythm together.

And, I am remembering those who cannot be thankful for these things. I am pleading with God to heal us, and take flesh once again so that the injustices in this world would not be so any longer. Praying, oh Holy Stranger, come and make yourself at home.

Merry Christmas, friends!
